Why Does Remote Video Coaching for Stand Up Paddle Boarding Make Such A Difference?
When it comes to improving technique, applying the CORRECT motor patterns over and over again is the gold standard for reliable growth. Some people have an innate ability to listen to their coach, read technical articles, and watch other skilled athletes to develop this prowess.

We get asked all the time by recreational paddlers and seasoned pros alike, “how can I take my paddling to the next level"?
Step one is to make a realistic plan and develop a personal accountability system to follow through with it. I am going to share with you the number one success conduit and the most under utilized tool in the paradigm of stand up paddleboard coaching.
VIDEO COACHING. PERIOD.
You MUST spend the time and effort analyzing videos and images both with your coach, and on your own. I know, it sounds daunting. For many, the thought of being on the other end of a camera lens brings anxiety, fear, and an awkward, uneasy feeling. But I promise it does get better. Especially when you make a revolutionary discovery that you wouldn’t have noticed otherwise.
Yes, Video analysis requires a reliable camera operator who can consistently shoot you out on the water. It doesn’t have to be a pro, just someone that can take direction, is willing to improve, and that can “nail the shot”. I’ve done countless shoots with my wife and my son behind the camera that have resulted in some major technique turn arounds!
The outcome of even just a few sessions will truly astound you. Consistency is key here, and there is no such thing as too much. Well, maybe there is a line; when you’re focusing too much on the video aspect than the technique aspect it might be time to re-evaluate WHY you’re doing it. You should still be keeping your head in the game, and eyes/brain/mind in front of you.
Many paddlers would rather buy a new board, high-end paddle, or upgrade their fin before they invest in themselves with good coaching and content analysis. I’m not saying these things can’t help push you to the next level, but good coaching is hard to beat in terms of overall value.

The list below covers answers to some of our most heard questions and concerns regarding the paradigm of video coaching and analysis;
1.) Video doesn’t lie! Be willing and able to accept your mistakes and realize they are actually the assets for your success.
2.) Some people have a strong ego and are not willing to learn, adapt, and change. If this is you then don't spend the effort.
3.) It may take several video sessions working on the same error correction for you to achieve the change. Then comes putting the corrected techniques into consistent practice. That said, some people make a marked change in just 1-2 sessions.
4.) Be patient and don't try to rush the process.
5.) Study your videos in both regular and slow speed many times over. Write down the corrections needed for the specific change you are looking for. Not sure what to correct and how? You’d be a great candidate for coaching!
