5 Performance Paddleboarding Tips
When it comes to displacement bow (Pointy Nose) performance stand up paddle boarding, I don't know everything! It is this solid realization that allows me to thrive and continue my quest to learn and grow. Trying to get your board up to speed so you can feel the movement across the water, your heart pounding, and your muscles working together is so much fun! To say it’s a total body and mind exercise is an understatement. There’s not much out there that gets all your cylinders firing like performance paddle boarding does!
See below 5 performance paddling tips for the week;
1.) The more your paddle is in the water creating momentum, the faster you will cover distance. You will also have the added benefit of being more stable on your board. This means getting the paddle in and out faster and more often. Not to be confused with LEAVING the paddle blade in the water for a longer period of time during your stroke.
2.) The pause and relax at the end of your stroke for the most part, is a waste of precious time and potential results. This very strong statement of mine is implied only for those who are seeking a high performance outcome. This boils down to “keep it moving” even if your chosen continuous pace is at a slower stroke per minute (SPM). Sometimes slower can be faster.
3.) A coach must be relevant with their technique along with having their words and technique match. Think “walk the walk and talk the talk”.
4.) The paddle stroke reach must be quick and concise, while melding with the catch. Doing this properly results in a moderate MPH and distance per stroke gain. ASK US HOW.
5.) If you’re trying to go faster and feel stuck, it’s time for good coaching.
