8 Common Performance Stand Up Paddleboard Technique Problems
These are the most common technique issues I see from many years of stand up paddleboard coaching and studying. They can be very easy to correct as long as the paddler is willing and diligent. If you suffer from any of these or don’t yet understand why they may be an issue, it could be time for some coaching!
1.) Squatting down with the hips to create force.
2.) Not submerging the paddle blade deep enough to the throat of the shaft.
3.) Pulling the paddle through the water past the board, instead of pulling the board past the paddle.
4.) Keeping the paddle blade in the water for too long at the end of the stroke.
5.) Not being present and focused on each stroke.
6.) Being too rigid and robotic.
7.) Trying to race without a properly developed technique base.
8.) Not keeping the paddle shaft as perpendicular to the water as possible.
